Nags Head, NC
We stayed at the same house as last year in the Seven Sisters Community of Nags Head at mile post 14. Click HERE for detailed info about the house. This year's participants were myself, Mark, Margaret, Rob, Sharon, Nuke, Kristin, Adam, Monica, Amanda, Aimee, Paula, Jeff, Conroy, Tom, Nick, and Alex. This year's weather was a little sketchy. We had plenty of great weather but also saw a lot of rain and a couple of very big storms. Unfortunately, we had some weather related losses this year. Both pavilion tents were ruined during a wind storm on Wednesday night.
"The more things change, the more they stay the same."
The SAME:
We had some repeat activities from last year's success story. Of course, we had the alcohol, go karts (with the violent hitting), sea kayaks,
and, of coarse, ........Karaoke
While Jeff refused to do an encore presentation of "Oops, I Did It Again," there were plenty of other songs in our repertoire. The ladies stole the show by going out and getting sexy hats for the added visual entertainment to go along with the obvious vocal entertainment. Nick quickly became a favorite with his rendition of "I'm Too Sexy" and nobody will forget Tom's excellent air guitar solo. While Kristin and Nick found "Paradise By The Dashboard Lights," Nuke and myself found all of our "Friends In Low Places" around the bar.
What's the old joke? "How many engineers does it take to ......" Well, we had karaoke equipment issues so we sent in the engineers (with half the house being engineers, you can imagine how this went). After about 30 minutes of swapping different CDs, using laptops, play stations, and multiple stereos and wire configurations, we got it worked out. The bartenders kept everyone happy throughout the night and proved that you can never have enough alcohol in the house as we finished most of the bottles of liquor.
We also spent plenty of time at the beach, drank a few liters at the Weeping Radish, and told embarrassing stories of our past.
The CHANGE:
This year Nuke brought a box of "blankets and stuff" that had a "Explosives" warning on the box. Hmmm, what did that mean. Well, he gave us a little fireworks show on the beach. Quite impressive (see our 4th of July photos for the rest of the show). The world of wireless internet is great. Our house didn't have an internet connection but with our Engineers, it wasn't a problem. Our laptops were able to pick up a couple of other peoples wireless connections although we had to stand out in the driveway to get a good enough signal :). Jeff made a donation to the house this year by bringing his Juggling kit with instructions. With all the rain, we got plenty of practice. Also, this year, I decided to lighten my hair. So, equipped with a bottle of Sun-In, we headed for the beach. As it didn't take long for my hair to lighten, a bunch of others decided that they would like to go along with the experiment. With mixed results, we tore through the bottle throughout the week. This caused the whole vacation to be dubbed the "Blondes Have More Fun Tour".
The REST:
There were plenty of card games (gin rummy, solitaire, and asshole). Conroy and Jeff were caught in their usual cheating ways during asshole by Amy, who went under the table to find there hidden cards. Myself and Mark had a cooler carrying issue. After karaoke, we tried to carry the cooler back downstairs. At the first turn we hit a snag and dropped the cooler, dumping what was left of the beer and all the ice and water all over the landing. So, as we were cleaning it up, Mark and Adam grabbed the cooler to continue the journey. And of course, on the second landing, dropped it again.
I was very lazy this year and didn't even take out my camera so I have to thank everyone for sharing their pictures with me so I could have something to report.
