Kevin calls me up and asks me what I am doing September 24th? I say, "Well, my birthday the following Monday but I don't have any weekend plans". He says, "Good, get a plane ticket and come on down. Our hockey club is sponsoring a golf tournament and we need a fourth."
First things first. We needed a team name. So we brainstorm and come up with a few good ideas:
Carl Spackler and the Gopher Holes
I'm with Stupid
Four
Alcoholics Unanimous
The Denny Pratt Tragedy
and finally, we settled on
Obviously, we did not adhere to our name. We had to crack one beer open to start the round. As I drive the cart over to Rob's car to pick him up, I tell him "I'm driving, I remember how bad you drive from your pre-wedding golf outing" All was going well, we were having a decent round of golf, tipping back a few brews and enjoying the weather. Somewhere around the ninth hole, it started going bad. I had enough in me to allow Rob to drive the cart the rest of the way and a lot of the rest became a blur.......
I do remember the 13th hole where the Hooters waitresses were waiting to greet us.
From here it got ugly, here are some pictures that were taken :). These were all AFTER Rob flipped the cart on top of me. That's right, Kevin said he saw the bottom panel of the kart. I landed on the cart path and the kart flipped over on top of me. Luckily, I was able to catch it and right the ship with just a minor butt bruise and sore elbow. The following hole Rob proceeded to drive across a green and somehow didn't see the sand trap in front of us....
Then he didn't see the tree in front of us......
Finally, I decided that it was my turn to drive again. This seemed like a good idea until...........
We were following Kevin's kart and Rob decided that it would be funny to unhook Kevy's bag. So he reached out in front of out kart and unhooked his bag. Then we both came to the epiphany that his bag was going to fall off his kart and we didn't want to run it over. Instinctively, Rob reached out for the bag. Instinctively, I hit the brakes. Unfortunately, our instincts didn't look ahead to all the consequences. The kart stopped and Rob didn't. Right through the windshield of the cart onto the cart path. Good thing I stopped or I might have run him over :) Good news is nobody was hurt, just some more good stories to pass on.
Well, all-in-all we did fairly well. We finished at -3 for the tourney, only 9 back from the team of ringers and in 6th place overall.
Thanks Kevy. It was a blast.
